For a business, the entity type and the software your books live in are useful to know up front. If you have received a notice with a deadline, mention it when you call.
Most individual federal and California income tax returns are due on April 15. An extension moves the filing deadline to October 15, but it does not extend the time to pay, so any balance is still due in April. Federal estimated tax payments are generally due in four installments: April 15, June 15, September 15, and January 15 of the following year. When a due date falls on a weekend or holiday, it moves to the next business day.
